Low Profile XLR

Introduction

We offer Cable Techniques's Low Profile XLR and TA Mini XLR connectors. These are high-quality connectors with black housing and gold contacts. See below for information on the angle options of the two connectors.

For ease, we use a clock as a reference, with the connector facing away from you like your about to plug it into a panel connector, the top/latch at 12:00, and the bottom/pin 3 (regular XLR) at 6:00.

Inlet or outlet can be used interchangeably in this case and refers to the direction the wire goes in or comes out of the connector. So if we said the inlet is at 9:00 that would mean the wire would come out of the connector on the left side

Low Profile XLR Connector

Cable Techniques's Low Profile XLR uses two different shell options that can be set up to have the cable inlet in almost any position.

The "Shell" is the metal casing of the connector. Figure 1 The cap is the plastic part at the back and has a hole for the cable inlet.

Fig 1: XLR Shell

Shell A: (Inlet left and right) has the screws at 12:00 and 6:00, and the cable inlet options are from 1:30 to 4:30 or 7:30 to 10:30. Figure 2

Shell B: (Inlet top and bottom) has the screws at 3:00 and 9:00, and the cable inlet options are from 10:30 to 1:30 or 4:30 to 7:30. Figure 3

We can make about any "thinner" cable like Mogami snakes, 2552 and 2319, and more with low-profile connectors. Because of the complications of listing so many options, some of these are by special request. Please contact us if you don't see the option you need and we'll help you out.

When ordering, we need the shell type and direction to build the cable to fit your needs. This is included as an option on our "low-profile cables," but not our "specialty cables" so you need to specify in the special instructions.

Changing the Angle

The two screws lock the cap in place, making sure the cap is secure will help prolong the life of the cable.

The screws use a 1.5mm hex head wrench, aka Allen wrench. By loosening the screws a little bit, the cap can be rotated on the side that the cable is located. By loosening the screws more, the cap can be removed and turned to the other side, to a completely different direction. The screws run in a slot that helps keep things aligned and will stop the cap from turning too far.

Care should be taken not to twist the wire when rotating and not to lose the screws (they are very small).

The TA XLR

The TA or Mini XLR Low Profile is similar to the XLR but has more limited directions available. It only has one shell option, with screws on the top at 12:00 and the bottom at 6:00, so the only cable inlet options are 3:00 or 6:00. Figure 5
