The question is, what do you do when your connection is not locking and the cable keeps getting pulled out of the gear?
Well there are multiple options, but let’s look at one. This requires no modification to the gear and is completely removable if you need to. It’s cheap and easy to implement, and can be done by anyone at any time. It is fairly ugly, so don’t do it if you care about that. It could impact controls on the other side of your gear, so keep that in mind as well. If done right, though, it will hold the wire in!
You will need at least 2-3 wire ties (zip ties) per wire. You will want one small one, like a 40-pound tie, for the wire. Then you will need 1-2 long ones that go all the way around the gear (the thinner, the better, which can be hard to find in long ties).
So here is our sample gear. In this case, it’s a 1/4″ connector that just won’t stay in.
So first, you will put the small tie around the wire, leaving it very loose. You will want to identify a spot that, once you tighten it down, will firmly hold onto the connector or cable.
Then, add your second tie around the gear and through the small tie.
If you want balance so that it will pull evenly on the connector, add another tie to the other side.
Once all the ties are in place, tighten the small tie around the wire, locking it in place. Then tighten the others around the gear, thus holding the connector in. Ensure it is balanced and that you are not stressing the connection or the wire.
Clip the ties and you’re good to go!
This took one 4″ tie and two 17″ ties to reach around the gear and connector.
Quick and simple fix. I hope that helps someone out!
